Introduction
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Backend Developer to join our engineering team. This is a pivotal role for an individual eager to build the foundational architecture of high-impact platforms from the ground up. As a key member of our initial technical team, you will be instrumental in shaping the robust, scalable, and secure backbone of solutions like GigShip and future Cosbyte products, directly contributing to our mission to solve real problems and impact lives across Africa.

What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure backend services and APIs for Cosbyte‘s diverse platforms, starting with GigShip.
- Architect and manage databases, ensuring data integrity, high performance, and seamless scalability (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
- Implement core business logic, complex data processing, user authentication, and critical third-party integrations (e.g., payment gateways, external APIs).
- Collaborate closely with Frontend Developers, Product/UX Designers, and Growth/Business Development teams to translate complex product requirements into elegant and efficient technical solutions.
- Write clean, well-documented, and highly optimized code, championing best practices in test-driven development (TDD) and code review processes.
- Ensure the security, reliability, and performance of all backend systems, building for resilience and future growth.
- Actively participate in architectural decisions, technology stack evaluations, and strategic technical planning.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize server-side applications to ensure peak performance and stability.
- Contribute to setting up and maintaining cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and robust CI/CD pipelines.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven Expertise: 3+ years of professional experience in backend development, with a strong portfolio of building scalable web applications.
- Deep Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge in at least one modern backend language and its associated framework(s) (e.g., Python/Django/Flask, Node.js/Express, Go, Ruby on Rails, PHP/Laravel).
- Database Mastery: Solid understanding and extensive experience with both relational and NoSQL databases, including schema design and optimization.
- API Design Excellence: Proven ability to design and implement secure, efficient, and well-documented RESTful APIs. GraphQL experience is a plus.
- Cloud Familiarity: Hands-on experience or strong understanding of cloud platforms and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is a significant advantage.
- Exceptional Problem-Solver: Possesses an analytical mind with a talent for tackling complex technical challenges and a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
